Colorado League Youth Cycling Growth Initiative
Join the Colorado High School Cycling League Executive Director Chris McGee and GoPro Mountain Games Field Rep Jon Tarkington for a roundtable discussion on creating new structures for youth cycling growth.
The discussion will focus on organizational collaboration to provide greater continuity for athletes and participation. A unified strategy among partners can lead to a shared development outlook from Middle School to College.

The Colorado League Coach Licensing Program prepares coaches to support student-athlete mountain bikers in a safe, structured, and developmentally appropriate environment. Our 3-tier system provides progressive training in youth development, risk management, team and practice management, and mountain bike skills instruction. No prior coaching experience is necessary.
Level 1 Coach
A Level 1 license prepares coaches to assist at team practices and events. An issued Level 1 license is required to participate in team events and pre-ride Colorado League racecourses on race weekends. Team administrators must have a Level 1 license.
Requirements:
Annual:
Registration (update profile, waivers, and annual coach license fee)
Background Check through Sterling Volunteers
NFHS Concussion Training (CDC Heads Up is also accepted)
Every 2 Years:
NFHS Protecting Students from Abuse (SafeSport is also accepted)
NFHS Bullying, Hazing & Inappropriate Behavior (SafeSport is also accepted)
NFHS Student Mental Health & Suicide Prevention

Level 2 Coach
A Level 2 license prepares coaches to lead practice groups, teach essential mountain bike skills, and manage safe practices for team members.
Requirements (in addition to all Level 1):
One-time:
Three hours of education at a Colorado League Coach education event
MBC – Basic Skills (PMBIA or BICP Level 1 also accepted)
20 Field Hours
First Aid/CPR (WFA, WFR, EMT is also accepted)
Every 2 Years:
Three hours of education at a Colorado League Coach event or youth-related coach training (See approved list HERE)
Renew First Aid/CPR (WFA, WFR, EMT is also accepted)
Delivery method: Online & in-person
Level 3 Coach
A Level 3 license prepares coaches to design and lead practices, develop season plans, and have an expanded leadership role on their team. All Head Coaches must obtain a Level 3 license by their team’s second season.
Requirements (in addition to all Level 2):
One-time:
3 additional hours of education at a Colorado League Coach Event (total of 6)
20 additional field hours (total of 40)
Every 2 Years:
Three hours of education at a Colorado League Coach event or youth-related coach training (See approved list HERE)

Race registration is online only. Registration deadline is Monday at 12 PM (noon) the week of the race. Rider membership and race entry fees are not refundable. Race entry fees are transferable within the current year series. No onsite registration for State Championships. Please email the Programs Director to request a race entry transfer.
