Wiens, a 2000 inductee to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, won the Leadville Trail 100 every year from 2003 to 2008. In 2007, he broke the 7 hour mark for the first time at 6:58:46 while holding off Floyd Landis of Tour de France infamy by just under 2 minutes. In 2008, Wiens won again beating 7-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong by just under 2 minutes and setting a new course record of 6:45:45. In 2009, Wiens finished second behind Armstrong in Leadville with a time of 6:57:02. Wiens is married to Susan DeMattei, a professional mountain biker and bronze medal winner. Susan DeMattei Susan DeMattei is a professional mountain biker who won the Bronze Medal in Mountain Biking at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia and in 1997, inducted to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. A former standout road cyclist, DeMattei was introduced to both road racing and, soon after, mountain biking while at California State University, Chico, where she was pursuing her nursing degree. DeMattei was a talented climber, and almost immediately after taking up cycling she was setting local road hillclimb records with times out of reach of most of the male competitors. She tried her hand at mountain bike racing, to even greater success, and was quickly signed to a pro contract. From 1990 through 1996 she finished in the top three in the NORBA Championship Series every year but one. In 1994, DeMattei took the silver medal in the World Championships in Vail, Colorado. Dave and Susan are the consummate ambassadors to spreading their joy of mountain biking through avid trail advocacy and mentoring riders from recreationists to racers.
